In a world filled with super heroes and super villains, she wanted to become neither, despite having gone to a private school that produced a number of both. Especially the later. But she couldn't stop herself from tinkering. Creating things that blurred the lines between technology, plant, and animals. It got people's attentions in a bad way.
She had to learn how to build up enough weight to throw it around. Making deals with dangerous people, a fortress out of an old building, relationships with the government, and a few creations that have become other people's nightmares did it. Still, under a healthy level of paranoia, she's still a smart ass who cares enough about people not to ever completely buy into the dark side or give the good guys tools they'd abuse. It's a shame she's still not great at the people thing.
